Do you ever get lost in your library? Can you no longer see the forest for the trees? Would you like your library loans to be more hit than miss? Does your library have a publicly available online catalogue?

I can help!

Based on your Goodreads profile, genre preferences and anything else you want to tell me about your reading habits and desires, I will help you find your way and lead you to those hidden gems your library has packed away.

For now, I’m offering this service for websites in English, Dutch, French, German, Norwegian and Danish. Since I’m still working out the kinks, I’m also offering this for free!

Just send a message with the subject line “Recommendation” to librec.request@gmail.com. I’ll send you a short form to fill in to get a feel for your tastes and will get back to you within 2 weeks with three recommendations.

Nothing is ever accidental and Nina never uses a pronoun for Lindsay, which is mostly a girl's name but not always. Can I ask why you made that choice?

Also, I hate you for s6 but I also love you for it 🤣

neil-gaiman:

Because it didn’t matter to the story whether her partner identified as male or female. So I chose a neutral name and no pronouns.

Gentle reminder that very little fandom labor is automated, because I think people forget that a lot.

That blog with a tagging system you love? A person curates those tags by hand.

That rec blog with a great organization scheme and pretty graphics? Someone designed and implemented that organization scheme and made those graphics.

That network that posts a cool variety of stuff? People track down all that variety and queue it by hand, and other people made all the individual pieces.

That post with umpteen links to helpful resources, and information about them? Someone gathered those links, researched the sources, wrote up the information about them.

That graphic about fandom statistics? Someone compiled those statistics, analyzed them, organized them, figured out a useful way to convey the information to others, and made the post.

That event that you think looks neat? Someone wrote the rules, created the blogs and Discords, designed the graphics, did their best to promo the event so it’d succeed.

None of this was done automatically. None of it just appears whole out of the internet ether.

I think everyone realizes that fic writing and fanart creation are work, and at least some folks have got it through their heads that gif creation and graphics and moodboards take effort, and meta is usually respected for the effort that goes into it, at least as far as I’ve seen, but I feel like a lot of people don’t really get how much labor goes into curation, too.

If people are creating resources, curating content, organizing the creations of others, gathering information, and doing other fandom activities that aren’t necessarily the direct action of creation, they’re doing a lot of fandom labor, and it’s often largely unrecognized.

Celebrate fan work!

To folks doing this kind of labor: I see you, and I thank you. You are the backbones of our fandoms and I love you.

my friend who doesn’t have tumblr wanted me to ask you about good omens s2

“I have to know why at the garden of eden, aziraphale doesn't know crowley when they would've already met at the creation of the universe.”

Asked by limester

neil-gaiman:

Why does your friend think he didn’t know him? Aziraphale didn’t know what the demon was calling himself. But they knew each other.

Disney is going to stop selling DVDs and Blu-rays in Australia and to think of what this means for accessibility, residuals, quality, public libraries here etc and the precedent this will set for other studios and distributors around the world oh it’s never been more over

…Not. Good.

Cool. Okay Disney, cool. Let the nation founded on criminal transportation continue the legacy of their founding population and just PIRATE THE SHIT out of everything.

(And they WILL DO IT without batting an eye. Cuz Aussies don’t give a shit about legality if you deny them the means to do ANYTHING above board)

Very Silly Concept: a show called “Accessibility Nightmares” but it’s structured exactly like Kitchen Nightmares. An accessibility specialist goes to different establishments and helps them make their businesses more accessible.

The accessibility specialist asks why the door at the top of the small set of stairs has a wheelchair symbol on it. The owner replies that’s the accessible bathroom. The camera zooms in on the specialist as they process this information.

Gordon Ramsay staring in disbeliefALT

A customer with a service dog comes in to a restaurant. The hostess tells them they don’t allow dogs. The accessibly specialist looks over at the hostess like

Gordon Ramsay looking at something with shock and alarmALT

And there are web accessibility episodes too. The accessibility specialist stares at the white text on the light pink background of the home page like

Gordon Ramsay resting his hand on his chin as he stares with a pained expression, eyes squintingALT

The specialist asks why not a single product picture has alt text, and the business owner says “Well I mean, it’s makeup, why would a blind person be shopping for makeup?” The specialist just

The specialist asks the web designer how a screen reader user is supposed to complete the captcha portion of the password reset process when there is no audio alternative. The designer admits they don’t know.

#this post has 10k notes to me

When you left this tag three days ago, I thought “that’s so sweet, but no. No way this concept is even close to that popular.”

[ID: Four pictures of Gordon Ramsay in various states of confusion. /end ID]

The funny yet realistic thing is - Gordon Ramsay would 100% host this show. He would 100% be interested in doing it. Also Ramsay isn’t afraid of growth & admitting when he needs to take time to learn/unlearn something. I bet you anything if his establishments aren’t already accessible - he would 100% update them to be so. Plus, he gets shit done & industry wide changes partially revolve around him & his friend group. It would have a ripple effect. People need to “@” him en masse.
